Great gaming experiences come in a number of different forms, and some fan favorite series were ones that were first introduced as tabletop experiences. Such is the case with Mutant, a post-apocalyptic series that's about to make the jump into the world of video games in the form of Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. Shacknews had a chance to sit down with Mark Parker, producer for Bearded Ladies, to learn more about the studio's upcoming release, including changes to the Mutant formula and the challenges of translating a tabletop RPG into a tactical video game.
Based on 80s Swedish tabletop role playing series Mutant, and following not too long after the 2014 release known as Mutant - Year Zero, Mutant Year Zero presents a blend of tactical and real-time gameplay, lovingly referred to as a "tactical adventure," in which the player takes control of one of several different mutated protagonists. The game involves sneaking around and taking out enemies in a dark, post-apocalyptic world set years after the end of the human race.
The gameplay shifts from smooth real-time environment traversal into sort of a turn-based strategic affair, and players can look forward to customizing their party with various skills, weapons, and other gear. Players can also choose from a set of different bonuses, and more heroes can be unlocked as they reach further into the game.
Mutant Year Zero will release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this year, and players can learn even more about the title by checking out Shacknews' hands-on preview.
